What does Nike do?

Nike, based in Beaverton, Oregon, designs sports shoes, clothing and equipment. It owns very few factories; products are made by partners, mainly in Vietnam, Indonesia and China. It sells through its own stores, the Nike app and retailers. Jordan and Converse are part of Nike too. From 2027, Nike will kit out Germany’s national football team.

Strengths

  • One of the most valuable brands in the world, with stars like Michael Jordan behind it.
  • Huge advertising and sponsorship deals, from football to the NBA.
  • Sold worldwide: more than half of revenue comes from outside North America.

Risks

  • Revenue is flat, and rivals like On, Hoka and Adidas are catching up.
  • US tariffs on goods from Asia make production more expensive.
  • Many sales are in other currencies, and as a euro investor you also carry dollar risk.
