Berlin-based Zalando sells clothes, shoes and beauty products online in 29 European countries. Since 2025 it also owns the fashion shop ABOUT YOU, alongside its outlet shop Lounge by Zalando. It also offers other retailers and brands warehousing, shipping and returns as a service. The company was founded in 2008 and started out selling shoes.
The boxes with the orange logo, free returns and the famous screaming TV ads: lots of people in Germany have ordered from Zalando.

- Lots of returns cost money, and its operating margin is thin at just under 5%.
- When consumers cut back, fashion is one of the first things they buy less of.
