Market capitalization (Marktkapitalisierung)

A company's stock market value: share price times the number of all shares issued.

In short

As of 5 October 2026

Market capitalization is a company's stock market value: the share price times the number of all issued shares. If a company has 200 million shares at 50 euros each, its market capitalization is 10 billion euros. The share price alone therefore says nothing about a company's size. Indices such as the DAX and MSCI World weight companies by market value.

Market capitalization (market cap) shows what a company is worth on the stock market in total. It changes with every price move.

Example: a company has 200 million shares and one share costs 50 euros. Its market cap is 10 billion euros.

The share price alone tells you nothing about a company's size. A 500-euro share can belong to a smaller company than a 20-euro share if there are fewer shares. Indices such as the DAX and MSCI World weight companies by market cap.
