In short

As of 5 October 2026

The MSCI World is a stock index of well over 1,000 large and mid-sized companies from 23 developed countries. Emerging markets such as China and India are not included. Because it is weighted by market value, US companies make up a good 70 percent and Germany only a few percent. An ETF lets you track it with small amounts.

The MSCI World covers large and mid-sized companies from developed countries such as the US, Japan, the UK and Germany. Emerging markets like China or India are not included.

Worth knowing: weighting follows market value. As a result, US companies make up just over 70 % of the index and Germany only a few percent. 'World' does not mean every country has equal weight.

Example: with an ETF on the MSCI World, even 100 euros gives you an indirect stake in over a thousand companies, from Apple to Siemens. It is one of the most popular ETF savings plan choices in Germany.
