What does Nvidia do?

Nvidia, based in Santa Clara, California, designs graphics chips. They used to be mainly for video games; today they mainly go into data centers, where tools like ChatGPT are trained on Nvidia chips. Nvidia doesn’t make the chips itself but has them built, mostly by TSMC in Taiwan. It also supplies the software developers use to program them.

Strengths

  • Nvidia is the clear leader in AI chips for data centers.
  • Its CUDA software has tied developers to Nvidia for many years.
  • Revenue grew by about two thirds in fiscal 2026, with very high margins.

Risks

  • Almost everything depends on the AI boom. If big tech buys fewer chips, Nvidia is hit hard.
  • US export bans to China and dependence on factories in Taiwan.
  • The stock is highly valued and swings a lot, plus there is dollar risk for euro investors.
