Deutsche Börse runs trading venues such as Xetra and the derivatives exchange Eurex. It makes sure trades are settled safely and, through Clearstream, holds securities for banks. It also sells software to fund managers and runs indices like the DAX, earning money at almost every step of a securities trade.
When you buy shares or ETFs on Xetra, it runs through Deutsche Börse, and one of its subsidiaries calculates the DAX.

Strengths
