What does Continental do?

Continental is best known for tyres. It also owns ContiTech, which makes hoses, conveyor belts and seals for industry. Its former car electronics business was spun off as Aumovio in 2025. In July 2026 Continental agreed to sell ContiTech to the investment firm Lone Star. After that, a pure tyre company remains.

Where you know it from

Many cars in Germany run on Continental tyres, which you often see when tyres are changed in spring and autumn.

Strengths

  • One of the world’s largest tyre makers, with a strong brand.
  • Tyres wear out and have to be replaced, which brings steady demand.
  • The tyre business is profitable, with an adjusted margin of about 13.6 percent in 2025.

Risks

  • The breakup is not finished yet, and the sale of ContiTech still needs regulatory approval.
  • Cheaper tyres from Asia put pressure on prices and market share.
  • Prices for rubber and energy swing a lot and can push up costs.
