In short
As of 8 October 2026A trading venue is the place where your order is executed. It can be an exchange such as XETRA or Stuttgart, or an off-exchange venue where a market maker quotes prices. Venues differ in trading hours, fees and spreads. For large stocks during main trading hours, the differences are usually small.
When you place an order, you usually also choose a trading venue. It can be a stock exchange such as XETRA or Stuttgart, or an off-exchange venue where a market maker quotes the prices.
Venues differ in trading hours, fees and spreads. Many neobrokers offer only a few. Since 1 July 2026, payment for order flow is banned in the EU, and some providers now route orders to several venues.
Example: the same stock may be quoted at 100.00 to 100.05 euros on XETRA and at 99.95 to 100.15 euros elsewhere. For large stocks during main hours, differences are usually small.
