Quarterly results are the business figures listed companies publish every three months, such as revenue, operating result and earnings per share, often with an outlook. For the share price, the comparison with analysts' expectations matters most. Even solid growth can send a stock lower if investors expected more.

Listed companies report regularly on how their business is going. Quarterly results cover the last three months: revenue, operating result, earnings per share and often an outlook. There are also half-year and annual reports.

On the stock market, what matters most is the comparison with analysts' expectations. If the numbers come in above or below, the price can jump sharply on the day. Important surprises between reporting dates must be published as an ad hoc disclosure.

Example: a company grows profit by 10 %, but analysts expected 15 %. The stock falls despite growth. How expectations shape prices is explained in how prices are made.
