Tagesgeld is a savings account with a variable interest rate that you can access every day. The rate can change at any time and usually follows the ECB's key interest rate. Banks often offer temporary teaser rates.

Balances up to 100,000 euros per person and bank are protected by statutory deposit insurance. There are no price swings, but the return after inflation is often close to zero or below. That makes it well suited to an emergency fund and money you need soon. Interest is subject to capital gains tax.

Example: you keep 8,000 euros at 2 % in a Tagesgeld account. After a year you receive 160 euros of interest before tax, and you can access the money at any time. When a savings account and when an ETF fits is covered in the topic Tagesgeld or ETF.
